Tuesday Wedding!

After a Very big weekend of weddings- this week started early with my first ever Tuesday Wedding! It was a beautiful day here in Brisbane yesterday- Clear Blue Skies, and Just warm enough without being hot.
A lovely couple from Melbourne held their wedding at a fantastic restaurant in New Farm- Watt modern dining.
When I arrived to set up the cupcake tower- the place was shut- with no one in sight!!!! Here I was standing out the front with the cake, and I couldn't find any staff!! Being a Chef- I knew that there must be chefs inside preparing the food, so after some serious banging on the doors- the chefs came out and let me in PHEW!!
So I then set up this cute cupcake tower! The Grooms parents were there when I was setting it up- and his mother asked if I had ever made a cake those colours before- the colours were matched to the bridesmaids dresses! And yes colour matching is something I do on a weekly basis!

The couple had a cartoon topper, which were barefoot, and holding hands- how sweet!!

This is definitely the sort of cake your guests aren't going to miss!!

ABIA Awards Night

Me and My little Sister Alex!

On Tuesday 15th May- The Cake That! support Crew headed to the 9th Annual QLD ABIA awards held at the Royal on the Park hotel.
The Awards for the Bridal industry are voted for by your past clients- so it was already an absolute honour to have been nominated, and to have qualified as a finalist in the Wedding cake Design category. As the top ten finalist were announced, there was my name up on the big screen- then it dropped down to the top 5- I was still in there!!!- Then the top three- I am almost squealing with excitement- can you believe it- after such a relatively short time in business- I am in the top 3 wedding cake designers in Queensland!!
And then for the drum roll......................... And the Winner is...........
Betty Ross cake design :( ! But Hey!!!! I came Second!!!! I only missed out by 0.1% I can't believe it I am the Runner up!!!!!

The scoreboard shows it all!

So I am so happy and Proud to be the 2007 Queensland-Australian Bridal Industry Academy- Runner up in the Wedding Cake Design Category!!
So this week a very big thank you to all my past clients who voted for me- giving me an overall ranking of 99.24% Satisfaction! The awards are based on Product quality, customer service, staff attitude, and value for money. So all in all I think that Cake That! has really made a mark in the industry!

A special Thank you goes out to my Family of supporters. who have encouraged me to do what I love! Especially My Husband, My parents and My Sisters- who give up a part of their week/weekend to ensure Cake that! is as successful as it is! From Delivery driving to collecting ingredients- and even bookwork- they all put in and give me a hand!! Not to mention the rest of my family and friends who are full of encouragement and support!!

So to all my past, present and future brides and grooms- you are welcome to vote year round on your Cake That! wedding cake-simply go to the ABIA website and enter your details. Voting couples go in the running to win a fantastic 2nd Honeymoon/Holiday!
By rating your suppliers you are giving an honest indication to future clients about vendors quality and customer satisfaction of their product!

So now all I need to do is improve that extra couple of points to become the ABIA 2008 QLD wedding cake designer!!!! Wish me Luck!

Saving the best for last!

Today is Mothers Day, and I had the pleasure of delivering the divine creation above!
A gorgeous three tier cake, with Baileys and traditional Mud cake inside! Covered in a velvet Dark Chocolate Ganache, and decorated with fresh roses and Gumnuts- the end product was just gorgeous!
The Florist who created the fresh blooms for this cake is truly wonderful! Karen from Bliss Floral always has exceptional blooms ready for the clients cakes. Once again, her flowers have turned a simple design into a glorious one!

I was also surprised to see another one of my cakes in todays Sunday Mail. This cake was created for Tanya and Brant- who held their reception last night at the Treasury Hotel! This cake was a two tiered version of my Bridal White design- with a twist. Tanya had a pink and lilac theme, so her cake had lustered icing pearls and sugar roses to match. This soft addition of colour was just pretty.

Last but not least- My Wonderful husband- once again- had the job of transporting and setting up a cake for me- whilst I was seeing clients :))
He drove this Cupcake tower up to Bribie Island on Saturday Morning, and set it up for a lunchtime wedding. The top tier of this design was encased in a solid chocolate collar, filled with chocolate scrolls with a cute couple in the middle.
When he got back to Brisbane, it was back into the car to help me deliver the rest of the cakes for the day! What an awesome guy!

Great South East

This weekend has been one of my most hectic yet! My husband and I drove more than 550km's yesterday-delivering cakes. We started early delivering cakes around the Brisbane CBD- then we headed out to Grandchester and then back to the Gold Coast- before finally returning home at 6pm! It was a massive day of driving to say the least!

This week saw me create a stunning Navy Blue cake design. This is an adaptation of a design I had already made for a couple last year- But in keeping with this couples Navy and Silver theme- we adapted the design to include Navy icing- and white decorations and draping. I was excited to see the navy napkins they had chosen were the same colour as the icing. Such a bold cake in a predominately white room was very striking! I also had another couple who had chosen the same design- in a classic red and white colour scheme. It is amazing how different the same design can look in a different colour!

Being a Long Weekend- I have another 2 weddings today- and once they are delivered- I am free to enjoy the rest of my weekend!
