Original cake June 2015</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div> With an entire tier untouched (blame me for the enormous cake), instead of cutting it up and sharing it out to all and sundry- she froze the tier and has kept it- waiting for another special occasion to utilise it. </div><div><i>Just to picture this "left over" tier size- it was 10" round and approx 9" high. AKA- bloody huge!</i></div><div><i><br></i></div><div>It was my mums birthday this week. When discussing what the plans to celebrate were- nutter sister pipes up and says that she's going to prepare the birthday cake utilising the frozen tier she'd been saving. </div><div>Honestly- you'd think she'd have a connection to hook her up with a fresh cake. </div><div>There was no arguing the use of the second hand cake. She reminded me on number of occasions that my own clients successfully froze their top tiers, and enjoyed them as an anniversary/celebration cake within 12 months of their weddings, what's good for the goose is good for the gander right?</div><div>So that was that. The tier was to be reinvigorated as the birthday cake for the family birthday dinner. </div><div><br></div><div>It was my mums actual birthday yesterday. I surprised her at work with a (freshly made) Drip cake.</div><div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-OgqPXvFfxRk/VxofLYl7DuI/AAAAAAAAEJg/NP9XMyzM60o/s640/blogger-image--1170288855.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-OgqPXvFfxRk/VxofLYl7DuI/AAAAAAAAEJg/NP9XMyzM60o/s640/blogger-image--1170288855.jpg"></a></div><div><br></div> Chocolate peanut butter caramel to be exact. </div><div>Layers of rich chocolate with peanut butter ganache, all drizzled with rich velvety caramel. With the added bonus of dark chocolate mousse quenelles (and a giant one on top). </div><div>Suffice to say both mum and her colleagues enjoyed the birthday day cake!<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-E_LggC_akow/VxofPuVlmTI/AAAAAAAAEJo/PDpN4BCDDqE/s640/blogger-image-500882778.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-E_LggC_akow/VxofPuVlmTI/AAAAAAAAEJo/PDpN4BCDDqE/s640/blogger-image-500882778.jpg"></a></div></div><div><br></div><div>But tonight's family festivities had us celebrating with the recycled cake. <i>I'm pretty much eating my hat right about now because to my astonishment- the cake was actually perfect. Just like the day it was made. </i></div><div>Keeping a giant cake is not like freezing a top tier. There was no size Tupperware container available to encase the cake. It had been thoroughly glad wrapped for the last 10 months- sat in a deep freezer- and defrosted yesterday. Amazing. </div><div>I honestly expected it to have been tainted by other freezer items given it wasn't encased in an airtight container. But indeed it was fab. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-8pegPnnCiwg/VxofIMntTRI/AAAAAAAAEJY/-U8qS36RVQU/s640/blogger-image-217745535.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-8pegPnnCiwg/VxofIMntTRI/AAAAAAAAEJY/-U8qS36RVQU/s640/blogger-image-217745535.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>I'd forgotten what flavour it was. Passionfruit lime, with lime buttercream. Moist delicious, and not an ounce of drying out!<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-RHk6ZZX-Hgg/VxofNu6pQ7I/AAAAAAAAEJk/FDTVL_71C8g/s640/blogger-image-731242112.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-RHk6ZZX-Hgg/VxofNu6pQ7I/AAAAAAAAEJk/FDTVL_71C8g/s640/blogger-image-731242112.jpg"></a></div></div><div>I'm delighted to report that this time is the last time this tier (in any form) will be making an appearance- I've sectioned it and sent it off with 11 different people. It's being eaten this weekend. </div><div>My husband in his humor suggested my sister could keep wedges and re-ice them as skateboard ramps for an 8th birthday. Thanks Steve, like she needs encouragement or ideas lol. </div><div><br></div><div>So there it was. A cake, used (successfully) twice for vastly different occasions, and enjoyed. The moral of this story is, know that a thrifty sister won't let great cake go to waste- even when she has unlimited supply of it at her disposal. </div><div><br></div><div>What began as a tiny Facebook status update - has turned into me sharing one of the idiosyncrasies that make my sister (and my family) the awesome people they are. </div><div><br></div><div>Thanks for reading</div><div>SJ </div><div><br></div>Sarah-Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00341068700686829907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2841677950319847268.post-72268238571955008102016-04-12T17:45:00.001+10:002016-04-12T20:10:45.374+10:00Wedding of the YearOk. Call me biased. But if you were in my shoes you'd surely be thinking the same way.<br />
<div>
My baby sister got married last week. The last one in my family to "tie the knot"! </div>
<div>
Surprisingly we all married in birthed chronological order- and we all celebrated in our own style. </div>
<div>
For years Alex has told me "when I get married I'm going to have......." Followed by lengthy discussions and brainstorming of stunning wedding trends and jaw dropping, crowd captivating things of wedded beauty. </div>
<div>
I said in my speech "if Alex had Pinterest, she'd have broken the Internet!" </div>
<div>
Call it easy to please, or easily excitable, Al LOVED pretty much every beautiful wedding idea there was on offer. Style wise, Elegant Vintage, is what you could coin the look they were working towards..........oh but wait- look at this pretty thing over here!!!!!!! lol. </div>
<div>
You get the drift. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
After many many discussions over time about "when" her wedding came around- it was kind of surreal that these last few months of planning weren't just day dreaming chats- these were real time reality. Stuff was going to happen. </div>
<div>
It was kind of a whirlwind of planning. </div>
<div>
I returned from holidays at the end of January, the date was set in motion- let's plan this April wedding. </div>
<div>
APRIL WEDDING!!!! Whoa. I've just spent 6 weeks eating and drinking my way through the festive season- slothing about and relaxing "summer holiday" style- now I had to rein in my health regime- I was going to be a BRIDESMAID. IN 10 weeks!! </div>
<div>
I could do it. Who needs sugar anyway š</div>
<div>
In amongst the freaking out, there was a true sense of excitement as it was now my pleasure to help Ali and Dunc create beautiful sweet treats for their special day. </div>
<div>
A&D has engaged some wonderful suppliers. Together we were a formidable wedding force. </div>
<div>
Karen from Bliss Floral perfectly captured Alex's floral ideas. When the bouquets arrived at my parents home- her squeals of delight and teary reaction to them simply said it all. I knew they'd be magnificent- but if we're measuring emotional responses, they topped my efforts no end. </div>
<div>
It was a real family effort setting the venue. Both families worked hard to turn the blank canvas into a warm romantic room, fit for the fabulous reception that awaited. </div>
<div>
The ceremony itself was performed by the remarkable Anne Campbell. </div>
<div>
We have been blessed to have known (and loved) Anne for many years now. Meeting through the wedding industry, and becoming friends because of her pure awesomeness. It was so wonderful to witness someone so close to our family formally marry Ali and Duncan. I say witness, but honestly, it was such a touching, amazing, warm, genuine ceremony, that emotionally I am still coming down from it (4 days later). I'm looking forward, in time, to reliving it through the professional images. As I stood in line beside my sister and watched the love both she and her new husband not only have for each other, but for their families and friends too, I couldn't help but be overcome with emotion and forgo my previously perfect made up face, replacing it with glazed eyes and blotchiness, engulfed by their heartfelt honesty and openness during such a tremendous ceremony. It wasn't all tears though. There were laughs and a hell of allot of pride, and abundance of LOVE! Huge congrats all round xoxoxo</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's funny how once a ceremony is over- any nerves are now quashed, and there's just a nice warm glow that fills your insides. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway- you're probably wondering "what about the cake?!?" </div>
<div>
Yes the cake. </div>
<div>
Let me tell you, shed loads of ideas were bandied about before the final design was decided a mere 7 days prior. Yes you read correctly. 7 days. I believe my sister thinks I am super woman. That I can pull amazing creations from virtual thin air- without even blinking- right? </div>
<div>
Lucky for her we are related. What wouldn't slide with an ordinary client, means "rule" bending for blood relatives. </div>
<div>
So after a desperate "you need to come over tonight and DECIDE" style call - another brainstorming session was in effect, and the Dream Wedding cake design was being processed. Duncan had full faith in my skill set (or at least that's what I'm telling myself) as he pretty much gave up the reigns to Al and let us run wild with the cake!</div>
<div>
Trying to come up with a point of difference that hasn't been "done" before is virtually impossible. Everything has been done at one point or another- it's just tweaking it, or reinventing it to make it your own. </div>
<div>
"We" (read I REALLY wanted to try his look) decided to put the cake in a frame. The room was completely blank and at our styling disposal. </div>
<div>
A block frame would highlight the cake and make it sit as the centrepiece of the sweets table. </div>
<div>
Of course if you're having a frame you need a custom pedestal stand too (Thanks Husband Steve- you've got no plans this weekend before the wedding do you?) </div>
<div>
Both the stand and the frame were painted in the Bridesmaids blue. A cross between a Royal and a Navy. Elegant, classy and timeless. </div>
<div>
Alex wanted to incorporate shaped tiers. We played around with tins until we came up with a combo that fit. </div>
<div>
I needed some foam as this size cake was far too large for the intended guest numbers- and of course there was no reason to downsize a design for the sake of practicality- so I called upon my supplier who custom cut the foam within hours and had me on track to conquer this epic masterpiece, all the while not upsetting my "real" cake schedule (my paying clients who decided on their designs long before miss last minute ;p ). </div>
<div>
I am honestly blessed to have such fab suppliers. </div>
<div>
Anyway- I immediately set myself to task to complete the abundance of sugar and paper flowers required to finish this design. </div>
<div>
I baked, and fast tracked, a whiskey, pistachio and craisin rich fruit cake, to send home with guests. I started on the list of sweet treats for the dessert and sweets stations (yes that's plural) and roped in our other sister to help me with all the finishing touches, sign & label making, ribbon tying, packaging and menu balancing (she's much better at culling than I). </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-V2hz8Da7mWQ/VwzAm2H3h3I/AAAAAAAAEJI/CPVeC6fq-9c/s640/blogger-image-2141249850.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-V2hz8Da7mWQ/VwzAm2H3h3I/AAAAAAAAEJI/CPVeC6fq-9c/s400/blogger-image-2141249850.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Luckily I like a party, and whilst my dear husband often curses my selection of table decor and styling items- they do often come in handy. Those crates he wants to throw out every other weekend, all my glassware, countless linens and frames were all used to create a stunning reception for the newlyweds. </div>
<div>
Alongside the cake sat a white themed sweet station. A mixture of homemade treats such as Meringues, cookies and Rocky Road, and white lollies. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
With the groom being a chef, and both our families enjoying great food- the reception was a roving gastronomic event. Guests were welcomed with an Antipasto and Charcuterie station that satisfied so deeply, that if you didn't eat again that night- you'd have gone to bed happy. But of course that was only the beginning. </div>
<div>
Dux Gutz Catering shined with moorish canapƩs (including a divine Asian duck salad) and a wandering buffet and noodle box station for mains. </div>
<div>
Then the antipasto was turned into a delectable Dessert station, with Belgian chocolate Mousse cones, Chocolate Cherry wedding cake (with brandied cherries and vanilla bean filling) and a selection of mini cupcakes, rounded off with"boozy" fruitcake. </div>
<div>
Personally I didn't make it past the canapƩs. I had eaten my weight in cheese and had ruined myself for anything more lol. </div>
<div>
From guest feedback I know others who have a much more reserved appetite and greater self control than I, enjoyed all that was on offer. I must practice greater restraint in the future. </div>
<div>
I really loved the cake design Alex and I came up with. So much so I'm immortalising it. If you're coming to meet with me you'll see a version of it standing proudly in my studio. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's one of those designs where I stand back and surprise myself that I made it. I made something that elegant, and pretty- and best of all it was for my sister!! </div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-eThjl1Aiay0/VwzAlIC16yI/AAAAAAAAEJE/Vpr_2-ffwn4/s640/blogger-image--2088856114.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="258" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-eThjl1Aiay0/VwzAlIC16yI/AAAAAAAAEJE/Vpr_2-ffwn4/s400/blogger-image--2088856114.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I'm so proud to be able to share my talents with my family, and in some tiny way show them the thanks and appreciation for their ongoing support to me and my little business. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
So here it is. My gift to my sister and new BIL. A tower of love and well wishes, encapsulated in the form of a great big wedding cake. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I was invited to say a speech at the wedding. It was a tough gig. When you're filled with so much love, joy and pride for the couple, it's so hard, when you're an emotional being like me, to speak words that truly convey what these two souls mean to you. So for the most part my speech was in the form of what I baked. I spoke few words (and didn't blubber - go me!!) and ended simply with this little ditty I found online:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
A wedding is a party</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
With, of course, a wedding cake</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
But sometimes by the time it comes</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
It's hard to stay awake</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
And so we have to get dressed up,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
And eat allot, and wait,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
For hours 'till they finally serve</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The great big wedding cake! </div>

<br />
So huge congrats to my baby sister and her beau Dunc. </div>
<div>
May the euphoria of wedded bliss last for eternity, and may you both enjoy true love and happiness always xoxoxo</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's cool to be able to spoil your loved ones. It's equally as cool to make enormous cakes!! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
To everyone getting married in 2016 and beyond, may you too enjoy the love and warmth of your families on your special day xoxoxo</div>

Between business and family I've barely had time to catch my breath. Owning your own business is rewarding and uber satisfying when you can look back on what you've achieved. </div><div>I'm currently treating myself to a little down time, recharging my batteries for an epic 2016 ahead. </div><div><br></div><div>As I look back on the year, I'm so overwhelmed with gratitude for all that I have. For my magnificent clients who put their faith in me to create beautiful centrepieces for their special occasions. For my ever loving and supportive family and friends who enable me to be the best I can be. I'm most grateful to have had the opportunity to once again spend the year following my passion and dreams, so I thank everyone, from the bottom of my heart, who has made this possible. </div><div>I surprise myself at this time of year, when I look back over the cakes I have made. Remembering the clients, how lovely they were, and how unique their cake design was to them. </div><div>The stresses of long weeks, late nights and limited sleep seem to be a distant memory, and it's the beautiful end products that resonate in my mind. </div><div>I've (once again) had some really awesome couples to work for. I've seen some shed tears of joy over the tiny part I've played in their day. I've received beautiful words of thanks, and been blessed with many warm hugs. I've beamed with pride when I've challenged myself and exceeded my own expectations. </div><div>I've not taken this talent for granted, and have shared my skills and given wholeheartedly. </div><div>I've picked a small selection of 2015 wedding cakes to look back on. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-KlItrZy6c28/VoRV80Of8jI/AAAAAAAAEIc/Rxcu4qSn-_c/s640/blogger-image-439587929.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-KlItrZy6c28/VoRV80Of8jI/AAAAAAAAEIc/Rxcu4qSn-_c/s640/blogger-image-439587929.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>This cake is forever in my memories, not only for its stunning metallic, whimsical beauty, nor the magnificent Cloudland Cellar that it was set in, but mainly for the wonderful clients who commissioned me to create it. </div><div>I knew they were special when they drove from the Sunshine Coast during a storm to meet me at (another) venue showcase. The put complete faith in my abilities to create a design within their brief. They touched my heart with their genuine gratitude, all the while I was equally thankful for the opportunity to work with them. </div><div> </div><div>This next design I adore because of its bold elegance. <br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0RIBPnHy90o/VoRVUh4YsGI/AAAAAAAAEIU/cRjjQ8na1Ug/s640/blogger-image--426549132.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0RIBPnHy90o/VoRVUh4YsGI/AAAAAAAAEIU/cRjjQ8na1Ug/s640/blogger-image--426549132.jpg"></a></div></div><div>Once again, superb clients to work for, trusting me to create something beautiful for their day. </div><div>Set in the romantic Alabaster Room at Victoria Park, the striped table runners, and vases of seasonal white blooms we're effortlessly elegant, all the while tying in beautifully was the cake design they'd chosen. </div><div><br></div><div>The next big beauty was one of the first cakes of 2015 for me. </div><div>It stood tall in QUT's Room 360, amongst stunning floral installations by Geraldine from Bouquet Boutique. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-NInJNpnvoIQ/VoRVRPIibEI/AAAAAAAAEIE/xp_HA4GtXgc/s640/blogger-image-1163488750.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-NInJNpnvoIQ/VoRVRPIibEI/AAAAAAAAEIE/xp_HA4GtXgc/s640/blogger-image-1163488750.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">This wonderful couple chose a mixture of styles that created a singular fairytale cake. The large fantasy rose bloom was the key feature to this gorgeous design. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Having the courage to execute a bold theme is the key to creating a wedding your guests will remember. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">This next cake and room set up at Eves on the River achieved just that. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-kg9tWxWzZko/VoRV_1xuuvI/AAAAAAAAEIk/56GoEgvcerw/s640/blogger-image-549439374.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-kg9tWxWzZko/VoRV_1xuuvI/AAAAAAAAEIk/56GoEgvcerw/s640/blogger-image-549439374.jpg"></a></div>Black damask stencilling on tall tiers, layered with deep red fresh roses (just before Valentine's Day too!) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">This cake was warm and bold- I loved it so much!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The next cake (finally) landed at The New Incholm Boutique Hotel. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Another remarkable couple to have worked with. They took their pre wedding venue hiccups in their stride and ended up in a room that suited their polished Art Deco theme to a T! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zjIm08UnPaA/VoRVSwTU26I/AAAAAAAAEIM/65SNv_Da5mY/s640/blogger-image-496576579.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zjIm08UnPaA/VoRVSwTU26I/AAAAAAAAEIM/65SNv_Da5mY/s640/blogger-image-496576579.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Their cake was constructed around their invitations. Pearl finish with hand cut decorations to tie all their elements together. Arguably one of the most pristine event set ups I'd witnessed<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"> this year. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">I could write a little ditty about each and every cake I've ever made. Each one has its own story. Each one touches my heart. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">But I'll leave this post with the last of my 2015 cake picks. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">I may have created this design many many times, but each time it is destined for another magic couple. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><font face="Helvetica Neue Light, HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif">I loved working with these guys. Since then it has sat hidden in its box until the other day- when we broke it out as the birthday pressie :)<br />
I had this Carnival Themed birthday to prepare- but what cake would I do?? Like any parent I relish the challenge of my kids birthday cakes, I am blessed that this is my talent to bestow upon them, and am rewarded greatly by the amazement I can provide them with my skills- but this doesn't mean making a cake is generally any easier for me. (I can totally see eyes rolling through the screen.... but wait)<br />Since I had my boys I have always wanted them to enjoy the simple things. On their actual birthdays we celebrate as a family with a butter iced cake- when they have a party my gift to them is whatever magnificent creation I can come up with to blow their tiny minds.<br />
This year the butter iced family cake had me realising the pain that many parents endure when trying to create something that looks, well, Easy?!?!?!?<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fTYdbU69FfM/VlrFhMyd13I/AAAAAAAAEGU/ht8W7IwynFQ/s1600/IMG_0563.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fTYdbU69FfM/VlrFhMyd13I/AAAAAAAAEGU/ht8W7IwynFQ/s320/IMG_0563.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
But before I put you through that little bit of imagery that you won't be able to un-see- My sister started the actual Birthday with a cake for the birthday boy- Enter Woolworths Fresh cream Sponge- finished with a pretty rainbow ombre on top too.<br />My sister is wonderfully no frills- there wasn't even cause to remove it from the plastic base onto a crockery plate ;P<br />Suffice to say the Birthday boy Loved every second of his first Birthday cake of the day.<br /><br />
So then came the evening- a quiet night at home to sing Happy Birthday as a family and eat a bit of cake. In my whirlwind of party planning- baking a cake for this family dinner became less of a priority- so I took practical parenthood by the hand and did what 1000's of parents before me have done- I bought a sponge!!!!<br />
(Ok so you bought a cake- I am sure you whipped it into an unrecognisable work of art?)<br />
<br />
Well no. This is where I came undone. With my other sister there to guide me out of the cutting errors I had made when attempting this on my own- I melted some ganache and tried to piece it together...........................<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PzvBZ4-HDoM/VlrGs2GkraI/AAAAAAAAEGo/L4-O7bim4Wo/s1600/IMG_0580.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PzvBZ4-HDoM/VlrGs2GkraI/AAAAAAAAEGo/L4-O7bim4Wo/s320/IMG_0580.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hwKFktjVXaM/VlrGtnUbvGI/AAAAAAAAEHQ/jHKXQaEXdz4/s1600/IMG_0583.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When I showed this pic to a long time and dear friend he suggested Mr Hanky- Just needed the Xmas hat! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My thoughts exactly.<br />My number 2 looked like a number 2.<br />There wasn't time to start again so I had to go with what I had. The kids could smell the sugar and they didn't care how malformed this "piece De resistance" was currently looking.<br />No amount of 100's and 1000's was going to cover up this atrocity! So I delved into the fridge and went straight into a recovery plan.<br />Whipped cream and fruit!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hwKFktjVXaM/VlrGtnUbvGI/AAAAAAAAEHQ/jHKXQaEXdz4/s1600/IMG_0583.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hwKFktjVXaM/VlrGtnUbvGI/AAAAAAAAEHQ/jHKXQaEXdz4/s320/IMG_0583.JPG" width="240" /></a><br />Kind of a 2- could be a Questions Mark- either way- he can't recognise numbers yet so I am safe.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
All the while sitting finished in my cake room was the Party cake.<br />Once I decided on what I was making for the celebration, I held my breath and went with it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I messaged my cake peeps with little updates of the progress, and finished what I had planned with minimal hurdles.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As always, I had my husband drilling and cutting timber at all hours to make this happen in between my regular orders.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had a load of fun putting him together! I loved making the horse with a bit of cheek in him- personality rather than just any old pretty Carousel Horse.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was a hot humid day here yesterday for the party- so I kept him cool right up until cutting time.<br />Then I bought him down and things got a little crazy. Expectations were high. Many had predicted a Circus tent, or a Ferris wheel- but I chose a Carousel Horse because that is what my Louis Loves whenever we have the opportunity to have a go one one.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HDP58yRWsaY/VlrGq9jIZeI/AAAAAAAAEHI/O5QJboRfDC0/s1600/IMG_0524.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HDP58yRWsaY/VlrGq9jIZeI/AAAAAAAAEHI/O5QJboRfDC0/s320/IMG_0524.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I 100% forgot to photograph the cake in my photo tent- but never mind.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A cake of this size and weight really should have been broken down graciously- but we were all having too much fun.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Poor horses behind got eaten and the weight of the front end had him flip off the board face first- still relatively in tact.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mhiHAjyZH2E/VlrGvXYiJKI/AAAAAAAAEHE/Ik9jq_g-6Uc/s1600/IMG_0651.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mhiHAjyZH2E/VlrGvXYiJKI/AAAAAAAAEHE/Ik9jq_g-6Uc/s320/IMG_0651.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So sitting at the end of what has been a huge weekend I can look back now and be glad (and proud) that I have managed to create another wonderful birthday memory for my kids, using the talent that I have.<br />Sadly though- Louis was most disappointed that this morning we didn't wake up and do it all over again. Ahhhhhhh well- that's life :)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So you've now learnt that my cake making skills are far from perfect- but given the opportunity I can make make a pretty wicked cake!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thanks for Reading!</div>

I mean who doesn't love destroying cake with no regard for etiquette or decorum? They're a load of fun for participants and viewers. <div><br><div>My own personal encounters with cake smashes bring back such wonderful memories. Seeing the babes eyes light up at the texture, then there's widen as they taste that sweetness for the first time.</div><div><br> <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-T5cw-voKlRA/VdRw6HpgWlI/AAAAAAAAEB4/RfHKkAXk8LM/s640/blogger-image--1454133428.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-T5cw-voKlRA/VdRw6HpgWlI/AAAAAAAAEB4/RfHKkAXk8LM/s640/blogger-image--1454133428.jpg"></a></div><div><br></div>The enormous smiles with muddled curiosity- such an adventure, its joy is contagious. </div><div>I recently shared a video clip on my Facebook page where a little girl enjoyed an entire chocolate cake. Delighting the onlookers by picking up the entire cake and rubbing her cute face in it. I think secretly perhaps many of us wish it was socially appropriate to consume foods we loved like this. In all honesty, after 49 days sugar free I could absolutely smash a cake like that, if I wasn't scared of my dietician hehehehehe</div><div>After seeing how many people enjoyed the video, it made me reminisce the cake smashes I'd been personally involved with. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-sdb9NvTbIhY/VdRxktAdprI/AAAAAAAAECA/B7LhsDoFKzc/s640/blogger-image--1896695845.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-sdb9NvTbIhY/VdRxktAdprI/AAAAAAAAECA/B7LhsDoFKzc/s640/blogger-image--1896695845.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>Although I make cakes, and have a cake room (s) in my home, my own babies aren't privy to an endless supply of the sweet deliciousness that is cake. It's not cruel parenting, more so my fear that they'll forgo the good food choices they already make in lieu of the chocolate chocolatey goodness that is my own biggest weakness. My eldest has only recently become aware of cake, yet his younger brother is all over that like ants at a picnic. That kid can sniff out cake at 100 paces. Any leftovers that may sit in a tin on our kitchen bench for my husbands lunch/visitors- is spotted with eagle eyes, and I'm left with the sounds of a toddler screeching "caaaaake!!" At me through the safety gates! Yes I was delusional to think that my own children wouldn't get "cake" until they went to school. Who was I kidding?!?!? Unfortunately #2 knows the difference between the scrumptious sugar free treats I make, and sample cake. He's been known to tell me "No!" and wave his arms madly in the direction of the previously mentioned snack cake. </div><div>Suffice to say he still eats the goodness I have offered him, in hope of greater reward lol</div><div>There is a point to this little ditty. I'd thought I'd share some of my "mum" cake efforts. If you're wanting to let your baby experience the magic of a smash cake have a go! I surprised myself and used packet mix (the first time since I was a child), and just had fun with a bit of colour and a shed load of buttercream. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-KuKnVgEAJUc/VdRxpemC8bI/AAAAAAAAECQ/B8aerCqYqs4/s640/blogger-image--1648782413.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-KuKnVgEAJUc/VdRxpemC8bI/AAAAAAAAECQ/B8aerCqYqs4/s640/blogger-image--1648782413.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>When my first baby did his cake smash, he did it with a team of babies. <div>
<br />
<div>
I remember vividly the moment my business name came about. </div>
<div>
My husband and I were on holidays in Palm Cove. I has tossed around names like "Couture Cakes" and "Boutique bakes" none of which really suited me and my personality - yet portrayed the image of the business and the standard delivered. </div>
<div>
Out of nowhere my husband suggested "Cake That!" It just clicked. To me it seemed fun, it was a name that would (hopefully) stick in clients minds, and all up it was straight to the point. It wasn't pretentious- nor too quirky that it left you wondering "what the?" Lol. </div>
<div>
And so began the journey of the business of Cake That!</div>
<div>
It's been a terrific ride. It's taken me on a journey of a lifetime, enabled me to work with some truly memorable clients, to challenge me and grow my skill level immensely, it's even enabled me to travel afar. </div>
<div>
Over the years I've learned so much, and I'm still learning everyday. I've become a better cake artist, yet I keep images of my early work in clear sight to remind me of how far I've come, and what support and determination can amount to.</div>
<div>
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">one of the many memory collections around my cake room </td></tr>

</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Not only has the business allowed me to be commissioned by some terrific clients, it's also enabled me to give back to the community through charity cupcake days and donating cakes and services to those otherwise less fortunate. I believe everyone has the right to enjoy cake, and if my little bit of talent can be used for greater good, then my job is done. </div>

I've met some amazing fellow cake peeps, who'll forever be more than colleagues, but honest to goodness friends. Cake That! has given me the opportunity to network alongside and make friendships with some of the best wedding vendors around. I mean, who doesn't love great cake- with a side of awesome decorator too hehehehe</div>

<br /></div>
<div>
Making great industry friends has really kept me accountable. Knowing that as well as my own intense critique, I had a network of people right behind me to keep me on my toes. </div>
<div>
I've always aimed to supply a product which is wonderful value for money. </div>
<div>
High quality at a very reasonable price. I'm conscious of the expense of a cake and strive to provide a product that exceeds my clients (and their guests) expectations. </div>

<div>
Styles and fashions have changed so much since "Cake That!" was born. 10 years ago the average tier height was 8.5cm. These days my cakes average (min) 12cm per regular height tier, with most designs and clients opting for even taller 15-20cm high tiers. </div>
<div>
I can't believe that time has flown by so swiftly. It feels like only yesterday that I walked into SmartLicense and lodged my name application, then headed to BCC at Chermside to lock in all the food licensing. </div>
<div>
I remember how nervous I was meeting my very first client with whom I had no connection with. She was so lovely and booked me on the spot! </div>
<div>
Meeting with clients is still such a magnificent perk of my job! Those who've met me will know that I love a chat, and often get well of the "cake" track during consultations. Although our meetings may be brief in the scheme of things, I like to be connected to those that I'm making such a symbolic cake for.</div>

My family have been the soul behind my success. They've always believed in me, supported and encouraged me, even though looking back now I'm unsure how they spotted my potential in the beginning. I often wonder if I've fluked this success. (almost everyday I feel like the girl whose family have said what a spectacular singer she is- yet in reality she's just ok with fleeting moments of wonderful) </div>

No doubt if you've ever been to an expo/showcase you've probably met one or two of my family. Without hesitation they're always there to help me out, and are a tremendous asset to my sales. My husband is the muscle behind most of my deliveries. Even more so in recent years where he developed a penchant for "staff lunch". Finding some of South East Queensland's best lunching spots nearby venues is a skill set he's mastered. </div>

My skills have been gained through allot of practice and hard work. Trial and error have been my best friend and worst enemy rolled into one. The majority of my skill set is self taught. I've learned a few tips and tricks from others, and passed on many myself. I've never asked another decorator about how to price a cake, how anyone else can quote on being you is just silly. </div>
<div>
My life has twisted and turned in many directions over this past decade. I can't imagine it any other way. I feel so blessed to wake up everyday and work within a business that makes others happy. </div>

<div>
To all my industry colleagues who've recommended and supported me over this time Thank you!</div>

Words cannot express the gratitude I have towards my Friends and Family for being my greatest supporters, for holding my hand when I needed it, and for keeping me down to earth when things got bigger than Ben Hur. Thank you just doesn't seem enough. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So as I move forward with Cake That! here's hoping the next 10 years are as fun as the last. Celebrations for this milestone are still undecided. Do I host a "Sarah-Jane" style shindig, or should I spoil myself with a token instead?? (If my husband doesn't read this maybe both??) </div>

<div>
It seems ironic that just as I'm finishing this blog my oven timer is sounding lol</div>

So thanks for reading today, but most of all thanks you for helping Cake That! become what it is today!</div>

Much love and appreciation </div>

This past weekend my baby sister celebrated her recent engagement. The party was a whirlwind event- organised in under 2 weeks. My soon to be BIL is the Head Chef at <a href="http://www.archivebeerboutique.com.au/" target="_blank">Archive</a>, so organising a time when they were both off was proving a difficult task- but when discussing birthday celebrations (My baby sister had her birthday over the weekend) we thought that maybe a combined event could work- well, we made it work :) )<br /><br />So we launched into planning mode. I already knew what cake I wanted to make for Alex and Duncan, as I was (surprisingly) inspired by a pair of tattoos that they had. I make no bones of the fact that I am not a tattoo person- but this pair was clever- and cute- and so would make a great cake.<br /><a href="https://scontent-lax1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/11014267_10152832138807563_6049315421399930876_n.jpg?oh=d68a360549b98a9f558197fa245cfe8a&oe=563C3963" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="217" src="https://scontent-lax1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/11014267_10152832138807563_6049315421399930876_n.jpg?oh=d68a360549b98a9f558197fa245cfe8a&oe=563C3963" width="320" /></a></div>

After getting approval from the happy couple (AKA telling them this is my planned design) I set about organising all the bits and pieces to bring this baby together!<br />After a ratty scratch paper drawing and some templates- I sent my dear husband off to <a href="http://www.bunnings.com.au/" target="_blank">Bunnings</a> to grab all the bits to engineer this piece. Then I got him to use his tools to cut it all to spec so that I could put it all together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had allot on last week with my "Real" cakes- so I needed to make this one out of ingredients that could handle me fiddling about across the week. Given we all see cake way too much- 3 out of the 4 "cakes" were non cake. Rocky road and Chewy Rice Krispie treat were used - and lovingly devoured by the guests too! The remaining tier was layers of extra cake mix from my "real" cake orders- which included rich chocolate and Caramel mudcake.<br /><br />Time was not a commodity that I had plenty of- so I put this cake together allot different to how I would normally. I ganached and iced the tiers insitu- which was awkward- yet worked fine in the end. <br />It is hard to explain the scale of these cakes. They were quite large in height (and I can hear my DH saying to me- "you should have taken a picture of it with a coke can beside them for scale"- yes dear- I should have) - they we reasonable heavy- yet were a dream to transport.<br /><br /><img border="0" height="320" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xft1/v/t1.0-9/11825149_10152832127047563_1229336546661851772_n.jpg?oh=5d8d8c76c480bea66a803dc0585d16b5&oe=564C9443&__gda__=1448657585_9f8f68946d6adb64b10db03ed1bbed5c" width="204" /></div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9I9CJlgMCHU/VcF3qPACjeI/AAAAAAAAD_8/n-uAIDxR7Sw/s1600/086.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9I9CJlgMCHU/VcF3qPACjeI/AAAAAAAAD_8/n-uAIDxR7Sw/s320/086.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Served with a spoonful of Vanilla Jalna and some sliced fresh banana- this felt indulgent, wintery and was so delicious. It is (in small pieces) also approved by <a href="http://www.clinicnutrition.com/" target="_blank">Peggy</a> (super nutritionist)!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So although I could totally smash a tub of <a href="https://www.facebook.com/GoldenGaytimeIcecreamTubProject" target="_blank">Gaytime Icecream</a> with a Warm chocolate Fondant and rich ganache- I am satisfied with my dietary culinary efforts whilst living the sugar free dream.</div>

I love to hate them. </div><div>You see, I get such satisfaction from making a jaw dropping Wedding Cake, the thought of a brightly coloured Novekty cake really doesn't excite me. <span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Or so I thought. </span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><br></span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">My lack of enthusiasm for Novelty grew as I began to realise that most consumers put less value on this style of cake. It's just a Cake right?? It's GOT to be simpler than a traditional wedding cake doesn't it??</span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">Well, no. </span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">It's true, a wedding cake is complex. It requires skill and finesse to finish it to a level worthy of its positioned glory. </span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">A Wedding Cake is the central focal point of the reception. It's the ceremonious symbol guests rush to ogle over when they enter the reception. The Wedding cake is the surprise factor. Will it be a big opulent structure coved with hand crafted sugar flowers, or will the guests be delighted by the surprise of a unique cake that represents the quirkiness of the couple. Or maybe something In-between . </span><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Whatever the design a Wedding cake is held in high regard. </span></div></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><br></span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Novelty cakes, sadly, don't have that same rap. They're fun. Sometimes they're cute. They're not as hard to make- are they????</span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">I use to fear the very thought of mixing up 19 different colours to create a novelty. I don't like waste, and when mixing up this many colours there's always some waste. Even with years of experience colour matching and blending, knowing how much you'll need to cover a tier, still means that there's leftover. While some colours can be saved for later, most are fiddly little bits that are not worth keeping, yet if you put all of the "bits" together in a ball, you'd have something between and orange and a grapefruit size piece left over. Pffft! That's a couple hundred grams of icing. Yes , but if you're making a few each week it adds up. </span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">There isn't that kind of waste with white or ivory cakes. </span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">Clients who couldn't see the time, effort and value in a Novelty are another reason I began to loathe this style. </span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">I was so disheartened by this that I dreaded anyone who inquired about a novelty cake with me. I'd send a quote, or offer one over the phone- to be met with akward silence. Or cries of "WHAT?!?!?" "IT'S JUST A CAKE!" </span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">But soon enough clients started to see the "Cool" in Novelty, they began to see that a 3D cake that was a replica of an object would not only serve as a delicious dessert at their gathering- it too would provide entertainment! It could Wow the guests as well as satisfying their sweet tooth!</span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">I loved hearing how my clients guests reacted. "They couldn't believe it was a cake!!" "I didn't want to cut it", were common feedback I received. </span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">With all this joy and excitement I started to like Novelty cakes (insert very surprised face). And while the majority of inquiries were still alarmed at what a novelty cake costs- there were clients who appreciated their worth and ordered some truly awesome cakes. </span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">My appreciation of Novelty cakes was probably summed up with this cake I did in 2012</span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-C9IEz-X2qHI/VLGWfXGyBoI/AAAAAAAAD9Y/fjt0THZ6Its/s640/blogger-image--876915392.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-C9IEz-X2qHI/VLGWfXGyBoI/AAAAAAAAD9Y/fjt0THZ6Its/s640/blogger-image--876915392.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I thought it was way cool! It's head even turned!! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">It was more than just a cake. It was a feature decoration at a party. "That's a cake?!?!" "Wow!" My job was complete. </div><br></span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">In 2014 I did some pretty fun cakes. I didn't realise how many until I spent time (hours) looking back through last years pictures. </span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">I also realised that maybe I liked Novelty design. Maybe it was pretty cool? Perhaps I did get job satisfaction from making them :)</span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;"><br></span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">So I thought I'd share my favourites from last year.</span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;"><br></span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">This push car cake was a 1/2 scale model. </span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-EQYJtdfn6-w/VLGWc3KdwQI/AAAAAAAAD9Q/2u9OTjscnw0/s640/blogger-image--2107881423.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-EQYJtdfn6-w/VLGWc3KdwQI/AAAAAAAAD9Q/2u9OTjscnw0/s640/blogger-image--2107881423.jpg"></a></div><br></span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;"><br></span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">Then there was Lola Pickles. </span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">Ordered as a surprise for the birthday girl- this 3D novelty cake was a cartoon replica of the family cat. </span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-__WGB4I1V-A/VLGWoOkIbKI/AAAAAAAAD94/30JSpVnUBEU/s640/blogger-image--648718314.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-__WGB4I1V-A/VLGWoOkIbKI/AAAAAAAAD94/30JSpVnUBEU/s640/blogger-image--648718314.jpg"></a></div><br></span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;"><br></span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">The one that possibly impressed grown men the most was the Lego Man Transformer cake. </span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-WpgEjs5gVsw/VLGXDpc8soI/AAAAAAAAD-g/mhDQG2RZPLo/s640/blogger-image-1227981328.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-WpgEjs5gVsw/VLGXDpc8soI/AAAAAAAAD-g/mhDQG2RZPLo/s640/blogger-image-1227981328.jpg"></a></div><br></span></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-xBCQ8zEDtU0/VLGWjgxw57I/AAAAAAAAD9o/-21lZazlwX4/s640/blogger-image-1289984072.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-xBCQ8zEDtU0/VLGWjgxw57I/AAAAAAAAD9o/-21lZazlwX4/s640/blogger-image-1289984072.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-sc3WAXZ3ePE/VLGWhU-nZcI/AAAAAAAAD9g/WGFi0wGwUTA/s640/blogger-image--521003608.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-sc3WAXZ3ePE/VLGWhU-nZcI/AAAAAAAAD9g/WGFi0wGwUTA/s640/blogger-image--521003608.jpg"></a></div> He was so big that I couldn't photograph him easily in my tent. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-qpmIhNJnB2w/VLGWlz9lGtI/AAAAAAAAD9w/jBuErgpqfZw/s640/blogger-image-1737846711.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-qpmIhNJnB2w/VLGWlz9lGtI/AAAAAAAAD9w/jBuErgpqfZw/s640/blogger-image-1737846711.jpg"></a></div>He was entirely cake- with the exception of the wheels- which were Rice Krispie Treat. </div><div>He was allot of fun. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-ppw_KUgKYBM/VLGXBW9q51I/AAAAAAAAD-Y/QGOagAzap0A/s640/blogger-image--1192512864.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-ppw_KUgKYBM/VLGXBW9q51I/AAAAAAAAD-Y/QGOagAzap0A/s640/blogger-image--1192512864.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>Then there was a replica of a young gentlemans Longboard. How truly blessed my family is, and how fortunate we are. </i><div><i>I have been priveledged to be apart of a family who encouraged and celebrated my successes, and who are always there to support me. </i></div><div><i>Although my clients often ask me about my family, and it's not often I publicly share. </i></div><div><i>I have written and deleted this blog many times. I've felt a bit conflicted about sharing. I've feared how it may be read, so I'm trying my best in this two dimensional platform to write it as best I can. </i></div><div><i>For as long as I can remember I've been aware of good fortune. Whilst growing up in a working class family, my parents always gave and shared without question. This upbringing has made me conscious of giving back and helping whenever I can. </i></div><div><i><br></i></div><div><i><br></i></div><div>This<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"> December my Big boy turned 3!</span></div><div>I am trying to instill the same caring values in him as was taught to me. It was like a lightbulb was switched on in his mind a few months ago- where he realised people recieved "things" for their birthdays. </div><div>So came forth the requests of anything he saw "maybe I can get this for my birthday???" became the phrase of the moment. The highlight of this time for me was when we were driving to Kindy and he saw a plumbers truck loaded with pipes. "Look at that big truck mummy!! Maybe I can get some pipes for my birthday???" Short of bursting out laughing, this melted my heart, because it kind of said to me that maybe he would appreciate the smaller things. </div><div>As he grasped what parties were about now- this year I wanted a simpler style party for him (yes I can hear the chorus of hysterical laughter from those who know me personally). I'm not one for commercial themed parties. I wanted something that engaged their imaginations. </div><div>A Western Party it was to be. I had it in my mind I wanted to create a fun party without expense. We had a bbq, icecreams, a stable with watermelon, carrots and apples, and grass dip (aka Spinach hommus and Guacamole)</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-lpVMGwdPz7Q/VKSxTp35lVI/AAAAAAAAD8I/PEdpHC_SZoc/s640/blogger-image--1311235830.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-lpVMGwdPz7Q/VKSxTp35lVI/AAAAAAAAD8I/PEdpHC_SZoc/s640/blogger-image--1311235830.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>I made bags of "Chaff" from oven baking shredded tortillas, to create healthy crisps for the kids. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-X_imhWKKdgU/VKSxF43Q2EI/AAAAAAAAD7o/M-iwILtNRIk/s640/blogger-image--539545728.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-X_imhWKKdgU/VKSxF43Q2EI/AAAAAAAAD7o/M-iwILtNRIk/s640/blogger-image--539545728.jpg"></a></div><div><br></div>Trail mix with popcorn added through, and I found giant marshmallows at Costco and made "campfire pops" by dipping them in chocolate- then assorted toppings. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-DRZDMAqywkY/VKSycd_TSfI/AAAAAAAAD8g/-YgMcaMqj_U/s640/blogger-image-451809294.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-DRZDMAqywkY/VKSycd_TSfI/AAAAAAAAD8g/-YgMcaMqj_U/s640/blogger-image-451809294.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>I love a bargain, so I bought a number balloon off eBay for $1.90 then had it filled for $5. I reused bunting I'd made years ago (much to my husbands delight and surprise).</div><div>I upcycled old pallets to create wooden crates, and bought some hay that we later used as garden mulch for decorations. </div><div><br></div><div>Yes the fiddly bits took allot of time, but what cost me in my time looked effective and kept costs down. </div><div>I had made a hobby horse for each family to take home instead of a lolly bag. I'll be honest- I worked on these for months in whatever moment of spare time I had. I used leftover fabric pieces, stuffings of (washed) old pillows, plus old bits of braid and buttons from my grandmothers collection. The biggest expense of these was the $3 stick. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-P55PiRUkAMM/VKSxOljojAI/AAAAAAAAD8A/aqhIhTmvwlY/s640/blogger-image--1449023531.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-P55PiRUkAMM/VKSxOljojAI/AAAAAAAAD8A/aqhIhTmvwlY/s640/blogger-image--1449023531.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>I had in my mind that I was going to make a hobby horse cake, but about a week out from his birthday, Finley asked "can you make a little me on a cake?" </div><div>From there my creative brain went a little overboard. Of course I could make a figurine - but how about a 3D cartoon Cowboy Kid instead?? I didn't tell Mr almost Three my plan. I wanted it to be a surprise. I wanted to see if I could impress the only person that mattered on his special day. </div><div>So I had a go. Yes I have years of cake making and designing experience behind me, but I still lack confidence in many elembets, and I've still allot to learn. </div><div><br></div><div>At one point I called my mum into my cake room to give me a bit of help, as I was doing the eyes, and scarily the cake looked like "Child of Chucky" lol. </div><div>I channeled the artistic talents of my fellow cake peeps, and I think in the end he turned out awesome! </div><div>I managed to keep him out of sight until the party day, then once all set up I bought the birthday boy down and showed him. </div><div>GOBSMACKED!! He was so chuffed he kept looking at the cake- then smiling to himself. I'm extremely blessed and I don't take that for granted. <div>When I saw the Channel 9 Today Show's #makesomeonehappy campaign - I instantly knew I wanted to be apart of it. </div><div>The core of the initiative isn't about flaunting privilege, it's about genuinely doing something thoughtful (no matter how simplistic) to make someone else's day. So when I hear "not like your cakes" or "I made a terrible cake" I feel sad. I truly love seeing other peoples creations. </div><div>It can be such a sense of achievement after allot of hard work to complete a cake. </div><div>I meet mums who dismiss their efforts as unworthy- when the truth be told these cakes they've made are the most special of any. </div><div>I'm a huge advocate for parents making their own kids cakes. It really is a right of passage. </div><div>My family will attest to some "challenging" cakes made for me as a kid. Not a single one looking like it stepped out of a magazine- but each and every one absolutely loved and cherished by me (and my friends). </div><div>Goodness knows as a teenager I made many of my baby sisters cakes- we both beamed with excitement at the epic brilliant sugary creation before us! I tried many a design out on her (thanks for being my guinea pig Al)</div><div><br></div><div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-eIzt_Zh3src/VFFLhTf8aHI/AAAAAAAAD6w/TeV4rPzoyEo/s640/blogger-image-874127042.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-eIzt_Zh3src/VFFLhTf8aHI/AAAAAAAAD6w/TeV4rPzoyEo/s640/blogger-image-874127042.jpg"></a></div><br></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div>Parents put so much pressure on themselves to create these magnificent cakes - when in reality kids love it (the cake) no matter how unlike the original idea the end result may be. </div><div>No one has ever gone to a kids party and said "geez look at that poor excuse for a cake" - instead we all really cheer that parent/loved one on for how terrific the cake is- and it's backed up by the excited and proud grin of the birthday recipient. </div><div> So if you're a friend of mine, or if you meet me- please NEVER apologise for the awesome, filled with love, painstakingly put together cake you've created- stand up and be proud, as I'll be there cheering you on!</div><div><br></div><div>I have been honored to guide many friends to make their own cakes, and seeing how chuffed they are with their finished product makes me feel wonderful too!</div><div>I welcome you to share your proudest cake achievements in the comment section :)</div><div><br></div><div>Next year is the 10th Anniversay of Cake That!. It wasn't even something I'd never attempted before. </div><div>So what was this cake you ask??</div><div>It was a lovingly made- frantically put together (read a houseful of builders and a short bursts of opportunity to put it together) and finished with a few "love bumps" that I'd be sweating bullets over on a regular order. But it was done. It turned out pretty funky (if I do say so myself) and it was delivered all in one piece. </div><div>But why the stress you ask???</div><div>It was a surprise for a friend :)</div><div>"So?!?!!" I hear you say. </div><div>But this isn't any ordinary run of the mill friend. This cake was for one of my fabulous "cake" ladies. One of the most gorgeous people you could meet. Talented beyond belief- and I was in charge of making her cake š</div><div><br></div><div>Given I had full artistic license on this little gem- I colluded with my fellow cake bevy, got the thumbs up for my design concept (although they vetoed my idea of putting 40 candles around the base pfft! I mean everyone loves illumination don't they lol) </div><div><br></div><div>Subconsciously I knew I had no reason to stress. I know had the shoe been on the other foot I would be ecstatic with anyone making a cake for me- but truth be told I'm a worry wart when it comes to these situations. </div><div>What if she doesn't like it?</div><div>What if she had a grand idea of her own and I was treading on her toes?</div><div>What if....... She's allergic to coconut?!?!?</div><div><br></div><div>So maybe I'm a bit extreme when it comes to unnecessarily worrying š</div><div><br></div><div>Anyway- I'm sure you've already guessed- but she did love the cake! (Phew) </div><div><br></div><div>So after I made it to the venue- and handed over the cake in question- it was party time!!!</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-flwu6C-sKQw/UxwgxLRYSNI/AAAAAAAAD50/ufxXVMC17E8/s640/blogger-image-363117912.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-flwu6C-sKQw/UxwgxLRYSNI/AAAAAAAAD50/ufxXVMC17E8/s640/blogger-image-363117912.jpg"></a></div>My fellow cake ladies are not my competition- they're my allies, my psychologists throughout my crazy weeks, they're my friends. I'm so very lucky to have met so many wonderful fellow cake enthusiasts that share not only a common love of cake- but have terrific senses of humour and genuinely are there to support you anytime. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-FgyWZelEqvY/UxwhUYNgpJI/AAAAAAAAD58/3TDB_ZpyL8Q/s640/blogger-image--199500057.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-FgyWZelEqvY/UxwhUYNgpJI/AAAAAAAAD58/3TDB_ZpyL8Q/s640/blogger-image--199500057.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>So this is my attempt at a cool "Rockabily" style cake. Cute and fun, zest lime and coconut inside (with white chocolate coconut ganache too!)</div><div><br></div><div>I truly hope that the divine Ms Amanda had a spectacular birthday!</div><div>Cheers for a fantastic year ahead xx</div>Sarah-Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00341068700686829907noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2841677950319847268.post-1187005425073124432014-02-19T16:05:00.001+10:002014-02-20T21:56:21.269+10:00What's new in 2014Hello!<div>Well it's already the third week in February- this year is flying by!</div><div>There's lots of exciting things planned for Cake That! this year. </div><div>An exciting new venture- a new list of gourmet flavours- and perhaps the most exciting- a Brand new Workroom for me!! </div><div><br></div><div>I've worked from home for almost 10yrs now- and with the need of a bit more space- I've taken a plunge and engaged builders and as I type they're building a new extension specifically for cake!!</div><div>Every home needs a cake room- it's sure to be the Media room of the naughties lol. </div><div>My old workroom has been transformed back into the bedroom it once was- and whilst I'm on leave - the builders are creating me a new space just for my cake!</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6lWCHY_pfLc/UwXtY2RiJEI/AAAAAAAAD5k/u6FuQjKUrr0/s640/blogger-image--836166619.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6lWCHY_pfLc/UwXtY2RiJEI/AAAAAAAAD5k/u6FuQjKUrr0/s640/blogger-image--836166619.jpg"></a></div><i>Work in progress- it's speeding along!</i></div><div>Choosing a functional design- finding a draftsman and builder- then the nitty gritty bits like floor coverings and handwashing sinks- it's been a job in itself! Worth it all none the less :)</div><div>It's not far from completion- I'm so looking forward to setting out all my racking and equipment- and having the space ready to start making new display cakes!</div><div><br></div><div>I've got so many ideas in my mind- here's hoping they come together and create big beautiful cakes :)</div><div><br></div><div>This weekend I'm keeping in touch and having a day of consults and cake tasting! I can't wait to test out some of the new flavour range on prospective clients!! </div><div><br></div><div>I can't wait to have the new room finished and start on my new display cakes! </div><div>Thanks for reading</div><div>SJ xx</div>Sarah-Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00341068700686829907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2841677950319847268.post-64745631675947961372014-02-15T16:27:00.001+10:002014-02-20T21:46:55.828+10:00In the swing!As some of you may know- I'm currently off on leave. I won't be back to caking until April 2014- time is flying- but that doesn't stop me itching to make cakes though :)<div>One of my friends is having a baby soon- this is her second baby- and it's due to be a little girl- so I was itching to make her a cute cake :)</div><div><br></div><div>After I got the all clear to make it my mind went into creative overdrive. </div><div>I wanted to make something that wasn't too over the top- and also incorporate the mum-to-be's request for a soft iced cake and Red Velvet. </div><div>While the cake itself wasn't exactly Red Velvet- it was an ombrĆ© pink Velvet cake:D</div><div>I kept true to the request and iced the cake in a soft icing. </div><div>Using the petal method I piped the base tier in a pink ombrĆ©- then finished the top tier with a little bunting on the wall and a sweet sugar baby carriage on top!<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-9BPh8Ya87JM/UwXrLpelkyI/AAAAAAAAD5Y/dW_7t84kSCU/s640/blogger-image--520226129.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-9BPh8Ya87JM/UwXrLpelkyI/AAAAAAAAD5Y/dW_7t84kSCU/s640/blogger-image--520226129.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">This cake definitely satisfied my need to "make a cake" fix!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Pfq9wA0RbPw/UwXrJR8T81I/AAAAAAAAD5Q/fK4WxfcTAqM/s640/blogger-image-1145048408.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Pfq9wA0RbPw/UwXrJR8T81I/AAAAAAAAD5Q/fK4WxfcTAqM/s640/blogger-image-1145048408.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Thanks for reading</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">SJ xx</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><br></div><br></div></div>Sarah-Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00341068700686829907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2841677950319847268.post-72524451056043838532014-02-15T16:19:00.001+10:002014-02-15T16:19:49.229+10:00Cake That! Superfood Slice<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">Cake That! Superfood Bar!</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">This delicious slice/bar is Gluten,Dairy,Nut and Sugar Free!</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">It's also vegan and requires minimal effort to make. I'm sure it'd last a long while in a container too- but it never lasts long enough here to test that theory lol</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica; min-height: 15px;"><br></p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">So here it is</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica; min-height: 15px;"><br></p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">Preheat your oven to 165degC</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica; min-height: 15px;"><br></p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">In a mixing bowl place</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">2 1/2 cups oats (if needed use GF oats)</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">2tbsp Chia seeds</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">3tbs Sunflower seeds</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">2tsp powdered ginger</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">2tsp cinnamon</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">200g sultanas</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">2tbs honey</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">2tbs flaxseed meal</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica; min-height: 15px;"><br></p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">In a blender- blend</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">2x over ripe bananas (med size)</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">200g pitted prunes</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">200g softened pitted dates (I put them into a bowl with a splash of water and microwave for 60secs)</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica; min-height: 15px;"><br></p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">Add blended mix to oat mix. </p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">Press into a lined slice tray and bake for 30-40 mins</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica; min-height: 15px;"><br></p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">The longer you bake the firmer the slice- I like it a bit chewy :)</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica; min-height: 15px;"><br></p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">Slice when warm- then devour once cold xx</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica; min-height: 15px;"><br></p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">I add other things to this slice and omit others depending on what I have on hand and what I feel like. </p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">As a base I use the oats and the blend mix- from there you can add coconut- nuts- dried fruit- different spices - whatever your heart desires!</p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica; min-height: 15px;"><br></p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;">You can even swap out prunes for more softened dates if you want. </p>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: 12px; font-family: Helvetica;"> I normally cut 18 pieces from a tray. They're a great little snack. </p>

If I'm unavailable for your date then sadly I cannot help with a cake. (I'm always happy to refer you to someone who might be able to help instead too) </div><div>It's not my business practice to supply quotes where I'm unable to accommodate the request. </div><div><br></div><div>Your Venue- I ask this to know how suitable your design will be there. Whether or not your venue has air conditioning, whether it is an outdoor venue, and of course it's location for delivery can all possibly impact on the design. </div><div>For instance- if you're having an outdoor marquee wedding in January a soft iced cake is definitely off the cards. And dependent upon the availability of aircon to store a fondant iced cake until just prior to the reception will also determine what's suitable. </div><div>The last thing I would want would be for your cake to turn into a melted puddle on the floor. </div><div><br></div><div>How your cake is being served. </div><div>Whether it's dessert or token pieces will effect how much cake you need. </div><div>Also if traditionally you wish to retain your top tier will also mean that you may need more cake to cater for your amount of guests. </div><div><br></div><div>While I often hear "no one eats cake" I'd beg to differ. I have countless thank yous and feedback from past clients telling me how they didn't get a single piece of cake as their guests ate it all on the night. </div><div>People will eat great cake :D</div><div>While only you will know your guests well enough to judge their appetite, It's also etiquette to provide a portion for each and every attendee. </div><div>Thinking that "none of the guys will want dessert" and wanting to order a cake 30 portions short isn't a cordial approach. </div><div>Your venue will want to cut enough portions to provide each guest with that course. Culling dessert for those you think may not want it is like only serving some guests an entree- because they would normally only eat a main meal. </div><div><br></div><div>So when looking for a quote on the perfect cake you've found- remember to supply the information above for a speedy reply. </div><div><br></div><div>Take it easy</div><div>SJ xx</div>Sarah-Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00341068700686829907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2841677950319847268.post-52660927618122676002013-08-22T20:59:00.000+10:002013-08-23T14:21:31.987+10:00Myth busted!<div style="text-align: center;"><br>
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Are you ready to start planning your cake but feel overwhelmed from all the information? Where to begin? And what about everything you've read/seen or been told by anyone who knows you're getting married? And how do you stay within your budget?</div><div style="text-align: center;">Inquiring with your favourite decorators around 10-12 months in advance will give you a good idea of how much to expect your chosen design will be. Busy periods book up the fastest (Autumn and Spring, as well as any Public and School holiday weekends are most popular here in Brisbane) so it's always a good idea to get in contact early to secure the date.</div><div style="text-align: center;">Knowing the "theme" or "feel" of your wedding is an important part of deciding on your cakes design. If you've chosen an elegant timeless venue and decorations, having an eye popping 4 tier Hot Pink and Purple Mad Hatter (Whilst may be completely fun) may leave your guests scratching their heads wondering how it fits in with everything else. </div><div style="text-align: center;">Don't worry of you haven't decided every last detail, just so long as you have an idea of the direction you're headed in (with regards to styling) you'll be able to start considering designs. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br></div><div style="text-align: center;">A week doesn't go by where I dont have a request for a "fake" cake to cut costs.</div><div style="text-align: center;">Unfortunately due to loads of misinformation clients are often lead to believe that choosing "Fake" tiers will result in a drastically cheaper cake.</div><div style="text-align: center;">The truth of the matter is that in most instances it won't make any significant difference.</div><div style="text-align: center;">With the exception of extremely large designs where the cakes itself physically couldn't fit into a standard commercial oven! <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-kpirYn9MuYE/UhXun8qZ7tI/AAAAAAAAD4w/uVwrLgxiAto/s640/blogger-image-2128652466.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-kpirYn9MuYE/UhXun8qZ7tI/AAAAAAAAD4w/uVwrLgxiAto/s640/blogger-image-2128652466.jpg"></a></div></div><div style="text-align: center;">A Styrofoam (or Fake) tier still takes just as much time to cover and decorate as a baked cake (often more due to it being so lightweight it is a bit more tricky to ice), the cost of the foam can sometimes be the same as a baked cake- when factoring in the foam cost plus a courier or time and fuel to have it delivered- sometimes it costs more.</div><div style="text-align: center;">Switching out an 8" round cake for foam certainly isn't going to save you any money- and in the end you will be left with a piece of inedible decorated styrofoam- Would you not prefer to simply have delicious cake leftover to eat instead?</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;">When choosing the sizing of your cake you need to know what presence you want it to have at your reception. You need to considerthe space it is being displayed in. Does the room have really tall ceilings? Is it dark and intimate? </div><div style="text-align: center;">Do you want your guests to ooooh and ahhh over it? Do you want them talking about how Amazing it tasted and how they were so surprised by such a magnificent cake inside and out?<br>
Or are you only having a cake because you feel you "Have" to have one for traditions sake? <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-TsL7eYjAA7M/UhXulakRWRI/AAAAAAAAD4o/JY2QR1yQy5g/s640/blogger-image-957423797.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-TsL7eYjAA7M/UhXulakRWRI/AAAAAAAAD4o/JY2QR1yQy5g/s640/blogger-image-957423797.jpg"></a></div></div><div style="text-align: center;">If your reasoning is because of the latter- then perhaps choose not to have a cake at all- there are no "rules" about what you must have, and personally I would much prefer to create a cake that my clients and their guests are going to love and enjoy rather than you feeling as though it is only there out of peer pressure.<br>
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br>
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-aYgzwc4Sk28/UhXujPNl2cI/AAAAAAAAD4g/K0euoUyq52g/s640/blogger-image-1537001763.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-aYgzwc4Sk28/UhXujPNl2cI/AAAAAAAAD4g/K0euoUyq52g/s640/blogger-image-1537001763.jpg"></a>Often clients are scared to disclose their cake budget to their decorator, when in fact disclosing your budget will help your decorator achieve a design that suits your needs and comes within the price range (and sometimes under) what you've accounted for. </div>By letting the decorator know this he/she will be able to help (where necessary) make design changes to meet your limits, whilst creating a beautiful cake for your event.
<div>There are often alternatives that can achieve similar looks without as much cost. </div><div>Use your decorators talents and knowledge wisely and you will end up with a magnificent centerpiece that you and your guests can admire. </div><div>When deciding on a budget carefully consider how you'll serve the cake. If its being served as dessert, while you will require larger portions, you'll more than likely be saving on your event package. </div><div>Here at Cake That! I offer a range of Baked from Scratch recipes to send your guests salivating over the menu to come. </div><div>What better way to finish a beautiful sit down dinner than a piece of Salted Caramel and Roasted Peanut cake- with peanut butter ganache? Or a slice of rich Dark Chocolate Hazelnut and Sour Cherry Cake, or A tangy Lemon and Wattleseed White chocolate Mudcake? </div><div><br></div><div>Are you hungry now? Hehehe</div><div>Complimentary samples are available at your consultation, and booked clients are welcome to continue to collect weekly sample on a reservation basis. </div><div> </div><div>So when you're ready to chat all things cake- get in contact :) I'd love to help create something stunning and wonderful for your special day</div><div>Keep Smiling</div><div>SJ </div><div><br></div>Sarah-Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00341068700686829907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2841677950319847268.post-8361479654489271462013-04-01T20:31:00.001+10:002013-04-01T20:31:03.468+10:00Happy Easter!!I hope you all had a fabulous Easter Weekend!! <br />
I enjoyed a lovely break- relaxing with my friends and family. <br />
It wasn't no baking for me though! I made some cupcakes and also some iced biscuits for fun. <br />
Looking forward to getting back into cakes tomorrow. <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Ag7G3-kua8U/UVlh3DyarPI/AAAAAAAAD3s/IW9PZTiI8Ao/s640/blogger-image--294882318.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Ag7G3-kua8U/UVlh3DyarPI/AAAAAAAAD3s/IW9PZTiI8Ao/s640/blogger-image--294882318.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-s3xLP_vmfPM/UVlh5DYkwuI/AAAAAAAAD30/w9btrzwwg7I/s640/blogger-image--1374212245.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-s3xLP_vmfPM/UVlh5DYkwuI/AAAAAAAAD30/w9btrzwwg7I/s640/blogger-image--1374212245.jpg" /></a></div>Sarah-Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00341068700686829907noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2841677950319847268.post-91930020399877112662013-03-07T21:25:00.001+10:002013-03-07T21:25:41.941+10:00Baby cakesTo be perfectly honest I worry about making kids cakes. It's not the designs themselves that I feel uneasy with- its the idea that I'm potentially taking a little bit away from the Childs parents. <br />
When I was a child I had all sorts of creations from my mum. None of which (respectfully) were "perfect"- but each one 100% made with love. <br />
I appreciate that we live in a time poor society- so I absolutely understand that- to many- outsourcing your little ones cake is just another load off your mind. <br />
I get countless requests for kids cakes- many at the last minute- but sadly like any other order- each is baked from scratch- and needed to be ordered well in advance to secure the date. <br />
Most of the children's cakes I do are for returning clients. <br />
I was lucky enough to make this Christening cake for Baby Dominic last month. <br />
A cute dusty blue cake compete with 3D lettering and a (if I do say so myself!) an adorable hand crafted sugar giraffe!<br />
I loved this little figurine so much! He was just so cute!!<br />
He stood around 15cm tall and was hand modeled and painted by me! <br />
I am blessed to be able to make such beautiful cakes for my clients!<br />
So do you love this cute as Baptism cake? <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-EauQUKsomBw/UTh5M5ff2CI/AAAAAAAAD3c/E3CFb7oOBnE/s640/blogger-image-1602317977.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-EauQUKsomBw/UTh5M5ff2CI/AAAAAAAAD3c/E3CFb7oOBnE/s640/blogger-image-1602317977.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-QBXOLhGO_TI/UTh5A9Nxn2I/AAAAAAAAD3Q/LA6NEyZB4JU/s640/blogger-image--809866782.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-QBXOLhGO_TI/UTh5A9Nxn2I/AAAAAAAAD3Q/LA6NEyZB4JU/s640/blogger-image--809866782.jpg" /></a></div>Sarah-Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00341068700686829907noreply@blogger.com0Alderley Alderley-27.421796 152.998877tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2841677950319847268.post-40048645574258541012012-10-27T20:14:00.003+10:002012-10-27T20:14:47.227+10:00Midway through March<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyone who knows me personally will know that my family and friends mean the world to me. I am a sucker for making them smile, and it brings me nothing but joy to be able to create a little slice of sugar for them.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This year I have been able to create some really special cakes for Family and Friends- in amongst my Fantastic Client cakes (Fantastic Clients- choosing equally fantastic cakes that is :D )</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I sometimes begin to think I do my best work when under the pump. I am the first to admit that while the ideas swell around in my head- putting them into action is commonly a last minute process- as the "real cakes" come first.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My Cousin Immy Turned 21 earlier this year. Immy is cool- she is the epitome of "chillaxed"- nothing bothers her- she is a "yeah- whatever you like" kind of girl. It wasn't the fact of whether or not she would like her cake that had me in a fluster- it was choosing a design and finishing it with the attention to detail it deserved that had me running around like a mad woman! lol!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For Immy's birthday- she was getting a Swag- for those of you playing at home- this is a waterproof bed/sleeping bag for camping- normally made from a heavy canvas with leather and all rolls up ready to be carried to your next camping spot underneath the stars.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So being time poor and wanting maximum effect from the design, I decided to go with a Swag shaped cake and personalised figure. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-S-5kQH0bo2k/UIukobUri6I/AAAAAAAAD2o/cPYP05fEcyI/s1600/IMG_2362.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-S-5kQH0bo2k/UIukobUri6I/AAAAAAAAD2o/cPYP05fEcyI/s320/IMG_2362.jpg" width="320" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A little guitar playing figure to be exact! Complete with Checked shirt- jeans- freckled nose and barefoot!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F_ir4EY8uGw/UIukdXwnslI/AAAAAAAAD2A/ZeUp40cjs5U/s1600/IMG_2225.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F_ir4EY8uGw/UIukdXwnslI/AAAAAAAAD2A/ZeUp40cjs5U/s320/IMG_2225.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cute! I hope that Immy is enjoying her year as a 21yr old- oh how some of us wish we could be that age again hahahah</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The next cake off the blocks is a cake that I have made allot of variations of.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This one has a striped overlay top and base and a large satin bow in the middle tier.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jKMSvGHq_JU/UIukfDUKqoI/AAAAAAAAD2I/mk5wvmhdrQo/s1600/IMG_2230.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jKMSvGHq_JU/UIukfDUKqoI/AAAAAAAAD2I/mk5wvmhdrQo/s320/IMG_2230.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Fresh flowers were added at the venue to complete the cake.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The next cake has a wonderful pop of colour. It is Whimsical and elegant all rolled into one.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This cake was made for clients whom I have had the pleasure of creating a few cakes for now- for both themselves and their family. It was absolutely lovely to be able to create their Wedding cake too! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rMJCnfCa6U4/UIuknIDGYhI/AAAAAAAAD2g/yqnKzEAdd6k/s1600/IMG_2244.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rMJCnfCa6U4/UIuknIDGYhI/AAAAAAAAD2g/yqnKzEAdd6k/s400/IMG_2244.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The cake featured a Cherry blossom style branch that wound up the front- with blossoms in shades of Tangerine and Ivory. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UrTBcZAlTqc/UIukhxzF0QI/AAAAAAAAD2Q/PMPSsvqczlE/s1600/IMG_2236.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UrTBcZAlTqc/UIukhxzF0QI/AAAAAAAAD2Q/PMPSsvqczlE/s400/IMG_2236.jpg" width="265" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Even though the blossoms and branch weren't "fine" they still looked delicate and carried the elegance of the evening.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PLSDkzyxJ-o/UIukkqqlARI/AAAAAAAAD2Y/AxDs8fRzhAk/s1600/IMG_2239.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PLSDkzyxJ-o/UIukkqqlARI/AAAAAAAAD2Y/AxDs8fRzhAk/s400/IMG_2239.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Katie and Ben wanted to personalise the cake with a set of figures for the top- which themselves were kitted out with a Nurse's watch and stethoscope- and an Electricians tool belt :D </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Very Sweet indeed.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-S-5kQH0bo2k/UIukobUri6I/AAAAAAAAD2o/cPYP05fEcyI/s1600/IMG_2362.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My next bride was super crafty! She made these fabulous Monogram toppers to match in with the wedding invite paper- very cool indeed!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Another bold popping cake- with black and white- then the bottom layer in Fire engine Red!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MEy3by-1OoU/UIukuY67yqI/AAAAAAAAD24/z9FcT1PAuAo/s1600/IMG_2421.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MEy3by-1OoU/UIukuY67yqI/AAAAAAAAD24/z9FcT1PAuAo/s320/IMG_2421.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To be truthful- it wasn't until I finished putting this cake together that I was convinced that it actually "worked"- Yes I surprise myself sometimes hahahahha</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The last cake for this blog post was also for a returning client.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had made Chloe's 21st Cake and this time I was getting to make her wedding cake :D</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cMT9RzAeBWA/UIuksPXdBOI/AAAAAAAAD2w/PIHDpT6AuKs/s1600/IMG_2414.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cMT9RzAeBWA/UIuksPXdBOI/AAAAAAAAD2w/PIHDpT6AuKs/s320/IMG_2414.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Complete with Figurines supplied by Chloe- this traditional three tier with piping detail over the tiers- draped icing and sugar roses- sat beautifully in their reception room at Victoria Park.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

It is no secret that my family are a massive part of my life. I am blessed to have close relationships, that are more like friendships than one that you have been born into.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
My two sister's are Amazing people- whilst from the outside they may seem vastly different, they may have a big age gap- but both of them have hearts of gold and would do anything for anyone- including me :D</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They are both often on hand to help out with my business and for nothing more than the satisfaction that they have made my job that little bit easier, and to see me succeed.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am a sucker for celebrating my friends and family. So when my sister Kate asked if I could do her a favour I jumped at the chance!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Since her Uni days , Kate has given Blood to the Australian Red Cross Service. This act is purely a volunteered donation and one of which is not done nearly enough in society. I myself don't donate- I know I should, but for many years my extreme fear of needles meant this would turn more into a circus at the blood bank rather than the calm process it needs to be.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So thank goodness for people like my sister- who very regularly donates (I believe Kate donates Plasma each fortnight? and whole blood whenever you are able to do that) and despite having lived overseas and travelling in and out- seems to make time to do this.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In late February she reached her 100 donation Milestone! But it wasn't herself she wanted to treat. She wanted to give the lovely staff at the Brisbane City Blood Bank a gift- and asked if I could please make a cake to take to them to say "Thank You" for all the hard work they do with all of the wonderful donors.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZZbPVfy7nHk/UHiTK_qWwTI/AAAAAAAAD08/RiIXKMw4aUU/s1600/IMG_2156.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZZbPVfy7nHk/UHiTK_qWwTI/AAAAAAAAD08/RiIXKMw4aUU/s400/IMG_2156.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She is simply too lovely! So with the design in mind- I set out to create a such a cake!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I remembered from my childhood that the Blood bank use to have a little blood drop mascot- so this was to be my inspiration :)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I now know that he has a name- Billy the Blood drop- and he is way cute!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A glistening red blood drop mascot and some cute Red Cross Mini cupcakes and we were set!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N0qfLWDQmmc/UHiTH-hPaKI/AAAAAAAAD0s/nTWg4VyD9es/s1600/IMG_2151.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N0qfLWDQmmc/UHiTH-hPaKI/AAAAAAAAD0s/nTWg4VyD9es/s320/IMG_2151.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Kate Surprised the staff with the cake on her 100th Donation day! Whilst they are most thankful to her- she was equally as thankful to them. <br />
It was my absolute pleasure to be able to create such a cake for such a worthy service- and of course to celebrate the wonderful achievement of my sister. Roll on 150 donations!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

Looking back through images from this year so far- I am constantly delighted seeing the fabulous cakes my clients have chosen for me to make.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It is like seeing them finished for the first time all over again.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It has been a big year of changes here at Cake That!- After a long break over the end of last year and the beginning of this year- I slowly moved back into caking. Making some fantastic cakes for some truly wonderful people.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
All the while readjusting this business to what it was born to be- a job that was here to keep me creatively excited- not one to make me a millionaire- but one to let me have a life and a lifestyle that I was proud of. Taking on a more relaxed tone- and having more fun, letting go of stress and just being me :D</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I recently launched the new updated website- which features the style of cakes that inspire me. Hopefully you love the new sections as much as I do. Choosing which cakes to include was a very hard task- getting the right balance of my all time favourites, along with those that catch the ever savvy clients eye didn't happen overnight..........well it happened over around 100 nights- lets be honest hahhaha- it was a project that I wished could have been completed faster- but got there in the end (still getting there- Fingers crossed the Real weddings/Testimonials section will be completed by the end of the month)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The <a href="http://www.facebook.com/cakethat" target="_blank">Facebook page </a>is nearing 5000 "likers" which in itself blows my mind. Whilst this may be small numbers to some other well known companies- to me this is enormous- close to 5000 people have taken the time to click "like" on my page- so a HUGE Thank you to them. Not only does it seem that you like the page- I am also getting some great feedback through there too. Don't be shy in leaving a comment - or leaving a message- I appreciate it all.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So if you have been patient enough to sit through this blog intro- I had better not disappoint you with the cakes I am about to feature- Right?<br />
So here we go :</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After my long break The first cab off the rank was filled with fun!<br />
In the Cake That! colours too! This three tier Mad Hatter for Emily and Jake was the confidence I needed to prove I could still do it (cake making that is) - I hadn't forgotten what to do- my Cake Brain still functioned- Yippee!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wTdKldBrJyQ/UHKiONEN7DI/AAAAAAAADzg/MLJb57P7jMQ/s1600/IMG_1917.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wTdKldBrJyQ/UHKiONEN7DI/AAAAAAAADzg/MLJb57P7jMQ/s320/IMG_1917.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This Hot Pink and Black Themed cake had "Helter Skelter" stripes on the top tier- which looked even more wicked on real life- Heart print over the middle and Varied stripes on the base. Instead of leaving the silver paper covered board- I iced it silver- to give it a clean finish.<br />
A cake this bold definitely a talking point.<br />
<br />
It was not long after the cake above- that I was contacted by an old (not in age but more of a Cherished way) client- who wanted a surprise birthday cake for her husband.<br />
Now this couple are one that I will NEVER forget- they definitely hold a little piece of my Cake That! heart. The most genuine and appreciative couple- they ventured well outside the lines of tradition with thier "Super Mario" wedding cake. They trusted me way back then to make a cake Uniquely them.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This time around it was another cake that held special meaning.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Athene wanted to surprise Wade with a Companion Cube- What is a Companion Cube you ask?? Actually I have virtually no idea- I know it is from a computer game- and it looks like fun- but I am sure those in "the know" will know and appreciate what it is/does- along with the suitably quirky message that was on the board.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QLMKE0rjn3g/UHKiPPMfWyI/AAAAAAAADzo/UNm4fXBPan8/s1600/IMG_2091.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QLMKE0rjn3g/UHKiPPMfWyI/AAAAAAAADzo/UNm4fXBPan8/s320/IMG_2091.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
From all reports it was very well received- mission accomplished :D</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It seems that Hot pink and Black were in this year.<br />
The next cupcake tower kept it simple and classy.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Black papers- alternating tiers of Hot pink and Black Hearts, all topped off with a cute couple.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WlUYMxVOt1k/UHKiRXf5vrI/AAAAAAAADz4/cS5E2qURmEY/s1600/IMG_2122.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WlUYMxVOt1k/UHKiRXf5vrI/AAAAAAAADz4/cS5E2qURmEY/s320/IMG_2122.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RhgIg-VvPxU/UHKiQPtAmXI/AAAAAAAADzw/eKu2lYxERD8/s1600/IMG_2118.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RhgIg-VvPxU/UHKiQPtAmXI/AAAAAAAADzw/eKu2lYxERD8/s320/IMG_2118.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Making the little sugar dresses and cool hairdo's really are a big highlight to me once finished.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Obviously I was on a lean the day the next lot of shots were taken- geeeez!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Some New Display cakes were in order for the Studio (actually more new ones are on the agenda at the moment)- so I sat down and drew some out- then put them together.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I like to have a bit of fun with the displays- and it has certainly seemed to inspire clients- who get to see both the size and the decoration close up.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
While most couples who opt for custom toppers have them sitting or standing nicely together- I felt this whimsical extended height three tier cake needed a bit of a twist. I put the spotlight on the bride here- having her sit daintily on the top edge- looking most bridal- all the while her groom is lying behind her- giving the "Thumbs up" and a wave! I also gave him red hair too- Cheeky monkey groom lol</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8bt_f9wc7jc/UHKiSZ5ec_I/AAAAAAAAD0A/vO-s5gEnLFw/s1600/IMG_2203.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8bt_f9wc7jc/UHKiSZ5ec_I/AAAAAAAAD0A/vO-s5gEnLFw/s320/IMG_2203.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And whilst it may be hard to recognise- the "dots" on the cake are Ivory on a white cake. I did this not only to add a little depth- but also to be able to demonstrate to subtly between the two shades of fondant. Yes eh Ivory will seem a tad darker en mass- but essentially it is just offwhite.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NicLzTMIgyA/UHKiTSziK9I/AAAAAAAAD0I/p6cQHGhfm1Q/s1600/IMG_2204.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NicLzTMIgyA/UHKiTSziK9I/AAAAAAAAD0I/p6cQHGhfm1Q/s320/IMG_2204.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Fluffyness is very "IN" at the moment. It seems I was ahead of my time with the Mummy cake from 2005 hahahhah- anywho- I had drawn up a Pale pink Ombre ruffle design- and as great minds think alike- even though we hadn't spoken at all about displays- my great friend and colleague Amanda from Deliberately Delicious- posted a picture of a brand new Purple Ombre Ruffle cake just as I was about to begin my original Pink one. Not one to cut someone else's grass- I mad a quick change to this pretty all white fluffy flower design instead.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AVkyogkqmik/UHKiUIDXo0I/AAAAAAAAD0Q/4alFY1GpQSI/s1600/IMG_2214.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AVkyogkqmik/UHKiUIDXo0I/AAAAAAAAD0Q/4alFY1GpQSI/s320/IMG_2214.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The simple drop scallop piping and pearl detail along the top edge adds to this delicate and lovely design.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The next cake is a twost on one that I do adore.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The Ivory version of this cake was my Facebook Profile pic for a while (It is now replaced)- but with teh ever growing trend in Pearl finishes and dusty hues- I chose to make a dusty pink pearl finish cake with Ivory lace overlay.<br />
Bold Vintage is what I will call it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Rud-Qyds3ts/UHKiVLrQWAI/AAAAAAAAD0Y/5Yi1joNHyps/s1600/IMG_2217.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Rud-Qyds3ts/UHKiVLrQWAI/AAAAAAAAD0Y/5Yi1joNHyps/s320/IMG_2217.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It kind of looks brownish in this pic - but it is like a dark tea rose in real life.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Inspiration for display cakes is constantly popping into my head- if only I could just play making cakes all day- I would need a new studio to display them all.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Well that is all for now- if you haven't already done so- head on over to the new website and have a look! I hope you love it- and it is mobile too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No more only being able to view it on a PC YAY!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thanks for reading</div>

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CuVWUBdwB6g/UCQ8tCEjzRI/AAAAAAAADw8/sdgULeBwPIc/s1600/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-13-008.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I count myself so very lucky everyday.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I wake up and get to make beautiful pretty cakes fro people celebrating the happiest occasions in their lives :D</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Let's be honest here- it has been a very long while since I have managed a blog post- my life is hectic- and creating these gorgeous cakes comes a long way before I get to chat about them. I do try to share as much as I can on my Face book page with you all- but the stories behind the cakes have somehow seemed to suffer of late.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am excited when I look back and see some of the amazing cakes that I have been asked to make- it makes the whole "running behind" thing allot easier for sure!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There is no particular order to this collaboration of 2011 cakes.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Just a few of my faves- ones that I am particularly chuffed I was chosen to make.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
First Cake off the rank is one I made for the gorgeous Vanessa and Ben. Like many of my clients- Vanessa and Ben came to me after finding out about me through Word of Mouth. No amount of Internet or magazine advertising can equate to this type of exposure.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Every time I send out a cake I think of it as my way of reaching over 200 people each time. Half of these people get to eat my cake- then they get to tell their friends about the fab cake they ate on the weekend- and then when it is time for a celebration- many remember "Cake That!" and contact me for a quote.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It is pretty simple stuff. Offer a wonderful product that speaks for itself and you will reap the rewards. I am not totally discounting visual advertising- it certainly does help jog peoples memories- but I certainly value personal recommendations far higher.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So back to Vanessa and Ben's wedding- I was not the only awesome Wedding Peep to be utilised for this event! Vanessa is sometimes a Second shooter for <a href="http://www.tonisnell.com.au/" target="_blank">Toni Snell</a> (Uber Wedding Photog), Vanessa now has her own Photography business up and running too!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Vanessa and Ben had the vivacious Anne Campbell marry them and held their wedding out at Glengariff at Dayboro.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CuVWUBdwB6g/UCQ8tCEjzRI/AAAAAAAADw8/sdgULeBwPIc/s1600/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-13-008.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CuVWUBdwB6g/UCQ8tCEjzRI/AAAAAAAADw8/sdgULeBwPIc/s320/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-13-008.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To fit in with their theme and also Vanessa's love of animal print- the cake was a Black and white Stunner- complete with personalised toppers- of course!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Three extended tiers of cake- one of which was Red Velvet- a lovely bold surprise :) </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AUurRCjDwMM/UCQ8uEdZrsI/AAAAAAAADxE/4BOyfq6wWVY/s1600/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-13-010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AUurRCjDwMM/UCQ8uEdZrsI/AAAAAAAADxE/4BOyfq6wWVY/s320/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-13-010.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For those of you that have met with me and have inquired about Black cakes- will know my spiel. Having Black icing will turn your guests mouths a blue black colour- so with this knowledge, and keen desire to have a knock out cake- Vanessa and Ben weighed up the pros and cons, in the end the black won out!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div align="center" style="text-align: center;">
The next cake is one that was
decorated to incorporate the heavy lace detail on the Bridal gown.</div>
<div align="center" style="text-align: center;">
Cakes like this are not only pretty-
but add an extra touch of sentiment to the design. <br />
<br />

<div align="center" style="text-align: center;">
This cake was eventually
finished with beautiful Antique roses (supplied by Jennine at <a href="http://www.fbdesign.com.au/" target="_blank">Florabella</a>)</div>
<div align="center" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div align="center" style="text-align: center;">
Antique roses are very popular-
especially with Vintage elegant themed weddings.</div>
<div align="center" style="text-align: center;">
The next cake had a beautifully
Dramatic venue styling- complete with black table cloths and chair covers and a
whole lot of bling!</div>
<div align="center" style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yYbtL8WG97k/UCQ8vpy0EmI/AAAAAAAADxU/jLhKIMXwj18/s1600/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-15-011.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yYbtL8WG97k/UCQ8vpy0EmI/AAAAAAAADxU/jLhKIMXwj18/s320/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-15-011.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yYbtL8WG97k/UCQ8vpy0EmI/AAAAAAAADxU/jLhKIMXwj18/s1600/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-15-011.jpg"><span style="color: blue; mso-no-proof: yes; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;"><span style="mso-ignore: vglayout;"><br /></span></span></a></div>
<div align="center" style="text-align: center;">
This Four tier Fresh flower stack
design stood beautifully in the Southern Cross Ballroom at the Royal on the
park.</div>
<div align="center" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div align="center" style="text-align: center;">
I feel very honored when I get to
make many cakes for the one family. The next cake is certainly no exception.</div>
<div align="center" style="text-align: center;">
I have made cakes for many occasions
for this family now, and each time is just as special as the last.</div>
<div align="center" style="text-align: center;">
This wedding cake for Kristen and Dan
was not only elegant and timeless- it has detail that was a direct replica of
the fabric flowers on her gown.</div>
<div align="center" style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Xk4ftwyM7Rw/UCQ82Vk-zMI/AAAAAAAADyc/HY6TY6TqFP0/s1600/IMG_1053.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Xk4ftwyM7Rw/UCQ82Vk-zMI/AAAAAAAADyc/HY6TY6TqFP0/s320/IMG_1053.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PqmcIwCVbWg/UCQ8ukycpTI/AAAAAAAADxM/G4VbbE7KdO8/s1600/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-15-004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The detail had a soft shimmer to it- just like the Organza in the dress.<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sEZnvg90P3w/UCQ81sbpjVI/AAAAAAAADyU/yFOxnxpaDus/s1600/IMG_1050.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sEZnvg90P3w/UCQ81sbpjVI/AAAAAAAADyU/yFOxnxpaDus/s320/IMG_1050.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="center" class="separator" style="text-align: center;">
The Subtle inclusion
of Strung diamantes around the base of the tiers tied together the diamante
detail in the centre of the flowers.</div>
<div align="center" class="separator" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div align="center" class="separator" style="text-align: center;">
It was only the very
next month- when once again I was commissioned to make another family cake!</div>
This time it was a baby shower cake for the Bride who started this family with
me :D<br />
The lovely Rebecca was expecting her first baby- and as a surprise her mum
organised a baby shower cake through me.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nksqMiptdu8/UCQ8wVyZvUI/AAAAAAAADxc/y45dxIwQ0ik/s1600/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-22-006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nksqMiptdu8/UCQ8wVyZvUI/AAAAAAAADxc/y45dxIwQ0ik/s320/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-22-006.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DIVHqu_RA2s/UCQ8xMxT4sI/AAAAAAAADxk/iYdeHmzZYeM/s1600/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-22-010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DIVHqu_RA2s/UCQ8xMxT4sI/AAAAAAAADxk/iYdeHmzZYeM/s320/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-22-010.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sweet little design for a baby on the way</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Next something for those a little Wild at Heart!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This 40th Leopard print handbag cake is puuuuuuuuuurfect for the big 40!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E1LVMoFZmts/UCQ8x--ZaXI/AAAAAAAADxs/KZ4wYx5vY0k/s1600/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-22-014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E1LVMoFZmts/UCQ8x--ZaXI/AAAAAAAADxs/KZ4wYx5vY0k/s320/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-22-014.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have no shame in admitting I have a soft spot for Monochromatic cakes.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There's just something about all white/Ivory cakes that oozes romance and elegance.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WjLB-zmsOXE/UCQ8zFnHKuI/AAAAAAAADx8/rTUU5L48KgA/s1600/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-28-007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WjLB-zmsOXE/UCQ8zFnHKuI/AAAAAAAADx8/rTUU5L48KgA/s320/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-28-007.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Yet again I have used embroidery detail from the Bridal gown- to create a pattern on the base tier.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sugar roses cover the top tier and a double sugar flat bow in the middle tier.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CjCTMTHytSk/UCQ8z0RBg1I/AAAAAAAADyE/cQp4GdxLcU0/s1600/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-28-010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CjCTMTHytSk/UCQ8z0RBg1I/AAAAAAAADyE/cQp4GdxLcU0/s320/2011-10-30-001-2011-10-28-010.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Although the next cake isn't exactly monochromatic- it is stunning.<br />
The perfect fresh blooms were supplied by Karen at Bliss Floral, and by absolute sheer fluke! I managed to make the piped icing pearls in the exact same cornflour shade as the natural flowers! Pretty chuffed if I do say so myself!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AkF1gvTNgRQ/UCQ809btteI/AAAAAAAADyM/YHDBnmAhyKQ/s1600/290866_270255856348511_142058572501574_834681_680893613_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AkF1gvTNgRQ/UCQ809btteI/AAAAAAAADyM/YHDBnmAhyKQ/s320/290866_270255856348511_142058572501574_834681_680893613_o.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The Delicate introduction of colour was simply stunning.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3Enuq89nZMc/UCQ85WgsDmI/AAAAAAAADy8/hgk2zcyzHY0/s1600/IMG_1138.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3Enuq89nZMc/UCQ85WgsDmI/AAAAAAAADy8/hgk2zcyzHY0/s320/IMG_1138.jpg" width="213" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sEZnvg90P3w/UCQ81sbpjVI/AAAAAAAADyU/yFOxnxpaDus/s1600/IMG_1050.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The next cake is becoming a welcome regular on my order list.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Three tiers extended height- with lace detail is a very graceful design that certainly will grab your guests attention.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-izkb6iOuXdE/UCQ826haenI/AAAAAAAADyk/Pai_KybNlZU/s1600/IMG_1084.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-izkb6iOuXdE/UCQ826haenI/AAAAAAAADyk/Pai_KybNlZU/s320/IMG_1084.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This particular version had fresh blooms on top which gave it a lovely Spring Fresh feel!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Mini cakes are like individual little morsels of cake couture!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kPgbzYtjTn8/UCQ83yLSL7I/AAAAAAAADys/vjZoLK6BknM/s1600/IMG_1095.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kPgbzYtjTn8/UCQ83yLSL7I/AAAAAAAADys/vjZoLK6BknM/s320/IMG_1095.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
An extravagant choice, treating each guest to their own wedding cake.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Pale pink and Bling- with 1/2 the cakes quilted and the other half simply banded with ribbon.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I get excited by clients who like to take risks- who throw caution to the wind and choose a cake that is uniquely them!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This four tier cake was decorated with sugar replicas of the very felt flowers that the Bride had handmade for her wedding.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qXM7rAySWk8/UCQ84sxUiRI/AAAAAAAADy0/trszNI8mkvI/s1600/IMG_1116.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qXM7rAySWk8/UCQ84sxUiRI/AAAAAAAADy0/trszNI8mkvI/s320/IMG_1116.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The bold colour palette of pink and purple tomes with a pop of lime green kept the cake playful and the atmosphere joyous.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Last but not least in this post all about the pretty is a stencil design- complete with a pearl sugar bow and cachous bling!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3Enuq89nZMc/UCQ85WgsDmI/AAAAAAAADy8/hgk2zcyzHY0/s1600/IMG_1138.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-n2CSw2wyw9k/UCQ859781qI/AAAAAAAADzE/nrOkLXGmIiA/s1600/finn-077.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-n2CSw2wyw9k/UCQ859781qI/AAAAAAAADzE/nrOkLXGmIiA/s320/finn-077.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Being able to eat everything on the cake right down to the ribbon is something to consider when choosing your cake.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-v72pU4Kcb8Q/UCQ86nahZWI/AAAAAAAADzM/WARz7zfKaHA/s1600/finn-081.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-v72pU4Kcb8Q/UCQ86nahZWI/AAAAAAAADzM/WARz7zfKaHA/s320/finn-081.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Imagine the oooh's and ahhh's that you will get when your guest realise that the bow is not satin but actually edible - made from sugar!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Well I could keep going sharing more and more pretties from the end of 2011- but you will probably nod off by the time I finish LOL</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So I will leave it there.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have so many exciting cakes form 2012 to share that I need to say farewell to 2011 and look forward to the now!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
